Average commuting time in Derby - 20 minutes!
A ‘major’ traffic problem in Derby is when there is a 5 minute delay on the route into work! Derby is a compact City, which means that even walking across the commercial centre, much of which is completely traffic free, takes no more than 20 minutes.
Travelling around and into Derby is relatively easy by bus or by car. Derby is well served by national bus operator ‘Arriva’ and the excellent local operator ‘Trent Barton’ who have won the ‘UK Bus Operator of the year award’ a number of times in recent years.
Derby has good radial routes and is investing £22 million in the completion of its inner ring road. Car parks are evenly distributed around the city, and include ‘Bold Lane Car Park’ officially declared as one of the ‘top ten most secure places in the world’ by the ‘Focus’ science magazine!
A 30 to 40 minute car journey at peak times of the rush hour will take you away from the city centre to picturesque market towns such as Wirksworth and Ashbourne, 15 miles away at the edge of the Dales.
Dedicated cycle routes along the side of the River Derwent, away from traffic, provide a stress free alternative and a 20 minute cycle ride will take you from the city centre to some of Derby’s most pleasant residential areas at the edge of the city.

Derby has excellent road and rail connections, which means that friends and relatives who remain in the south-east are within easy reach of your new home in Derby. With the M1 only a few minutes from Derby City centre you can be at Brent Cross within 2 hours.
Direct train travelling time to London can be as little as 1 hr and 38 minutes, enabling you to meet colleagues in London in the morning and make a leisurely lunch-time return for a complete afternoon in your Derby office.

Airport 15 minutes – Open countryside 15 minutes!
Short and long haul flights and budget airlines all operate from East Midlands airport, which is growing rapidly and is now the second largest cargo handling airport in the UK behind Heathrow. Just to the south of Derby and 15 minutes by road from the city centre, a weekend break to Milan or Christmas shopping in Prague is now an affordable and stress free reality. Access to the world is even more comprehensive from Birmingham International airport, which is only 50 minutes away.
