Labour Supply: Standard Occupational Classification data source
Figures are taken from the annual Local Area Labour Force Survey. The LFS is the largest regular household survey in the United Kingdom. The annual local area LFS dataset includes surveys conducted between March and February of each year. It also includes additional samples for some local areas in order to enhance the reliability of estimates for these areas. Data for 2001/02 are based on a sample of over 156,000 UK households consisting of around 361,000 people, of whom over 282,000 is aged 16 and over.
As LFS estimates are based on statistical samples, they are subject to sampling variability. This means that if another sample for the same period were drawn, a different estimate might be produced. In general, the larger the number of people in the sample, the smaller the variation between estimates. Estimates for smaller areas such as local/unitary authorities are therefore less reliable than those for larger areas such as regions and countries. When the sample size is considered too small to produce reliable estimates, the estimates are replaced with a # in tables.

Notes and Definitions
Data Source: These tables use data from the 2001 Census
Resident Population: People who have their main address in the area. For the 2001 Census, students’ term time addresses were taken as their main address instead of their home address as in 1991.
Age: Age at last birthday on 29th April 2001.
General Notes: Derby City Council believes that the figures published in the 2001 Census understate both the population of the City and the number of households in Derby. This issue is being pursued with the Office for National Statistics. It could have an impact on the numbers and percentages in this profile.
The mid year population estimate for 2004 was 233,700 people.
The working age population for 2005 was £131,000. |
