Egg's Derby premises"On deciding where to locate our main business centre in 1998, we had a complex set of requirements and we looked at a number of potential locations around the UK. We needed to be able to commute to our other offices in Dudley and London as well as to be close to a major airport for European travel.

It was also important to us that there was an available and trainable workforce that were unlikely to have had previous financial services experience, thus enabling us to create the totally new customer experience we had planned. We needed large adaptable premises, fast, as well as the availability of further room for expansion and contingency premises.

Because of our original experience, when we decided to expand our UK business further, it was obvious that we should do it in Derby. We are delighted to be in Derby and to be part of the future heritage of this region. A number of our senior managers and executives have re-located to the area with their families to take advantage of and enjoy the greater access to leisure and the warmth of Derbyshire people.

Derby City Council worked tirelessly with us to ensure we achieved our aim."

Manufacturers of Avensis and Corolla vehicles
Investment in Burnaston plant = £1.1 billion
Current headcount at Burnaston plant = 4,100 employees

Toyota's Derby premises"In 1989 Toyota Motor Corporation announced that it was to establish a manufacturing operation in Europe. To support its goal of 'building cars where the customers are', Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. was established in December of that year and the Company sought sites for its UK manufacturing operations.

Derbyshire offered a site of almost 600 acres at Burnaston - about 7 miles from Derby city centre - on a relatively flat and easy to develop piece of land which also offered good transportation links to all parts of the UK and Europe.

Dr Bryan Jackson, Managing Director of the plant at this time, highlighted that by working closely with the local authorities we were made aware of the availability of a large skilled and flexible workforce close by with strong roots in engineering and manufacturing and how the region offered a first class environment in which to live and work.

From the outset the local authorities also showed great enthusiasm and willingness to assist us.

Derbyshire provided an effective infrastructure to enable us to operate and also business and personnel support services to help the Company and its people to integrate into the local communities.

Toyota have now been manufacturing cars at our Burnaston Plant in Derbyshire for fifteen years and continue to enjoy the many benefits that attracted us to the area."

one of the UK's leading regional commercial law firms
turnover = £15 million
Current headcount = 48 partners and 350 employees

Edwards Geldard's Derby premises"As one of the UK’s leading regionally based commercial law firms, Edwards Geldard first moved to Derby in 1988 as part of a major expansion drive into the East Midlands.

Following 14 years of growth, the firm relocated to impressive, award-winning new offices in a flagship development on Pride Park. This was a clear statement of our commitment to the Derby marketplace.

Such had been our rate of progress that moving to larger offices was the only option and we were certainly happy to demonstrate our confidence in the city and its business community.

Derby has an exciting future and we want to play our part in making it happen.

The prestigious three-storey 22,500 sq ft offices at Number One Pride Park offered high specification, state of the art facilities, specifically designed to suit the needs of a progressive, modern law firm. Included in the building were sophisticated meeting rooms complete with video conferencing facilities, a “breakout” area with TV and Internet café for staff.

We were attracted by the superb location which is ideally situated for our business needs and provides us with easy access to the corporate heart of Derby and the rest of the region. As we expected, the move has been a tremendous success, stimulating further growth in the business.

The building represents a major investment on our part. We have created an environment aimed at bringing out the best in our staff and one that clients will recognise as being of long term benefit because it helps us to further raise service levels."
